Scotland are at a World Cup again – and Glasgow’s not sleeping tonight

Set your alarms, charge your phones, and maybe just accept you’re not sleeping properly tonight – Scotland are back at a World Cup, and it’s actually happening. Scotland’s opening match against Haiti kicks off at 2am UK time on Sunday 14 June, and after nearly thirty years away from football’s biggest stage, this city is buzzing.

Three decades. Let that sink in. A whole generation of Glaswegians has never seen Scotland at a World Cup – and now here we are, hours away from kickoff, and the excitement around the city is impossible to miss.

And here’s the thing – Glasgow isn’t just watching from the sofa. Bars and venues across the city centre are opening specifically for this game, lights on, doors open, screens ready, all for a 2am kickoff. That’s the kind of city this is. If staying in isn’t your thing, there’s a proper match-day atmosphere waiting for you out there tonight.

This is just the start too – Scotland face Morocco on 19 June and Brazil on 24 June, so however tonight goes, there’s a lot more football (and a lot more late nights) still to come. But there’s nothing quite like a first game, and a 2am kickoff against Haiti feels exactly like the kind of unforgettable, slightly mad occasion this city does best.

Come on Scotland.
