Vroni’s: Glasgow’s Hidden Gem for Wine & Cheese Lovers

Vroni’s has been in the city centre for a long time, but you may not have heard of it. Tucked away on West Nile Street, this lively pub with plenty of character is the ideal addition to your day out in town. It has been open for around 30 years, so it’s definitely not new, but it’s still worth a visit.

The vibe

It’s warm, candle-lit, and instantly cosy the moment you walk through the door. Between the dark wood interiors and tucked-away booths, it creates a relaxed, low-key atmosphere that practically invites you to slow down and take your time over a wine flight and cheeseboard.

The experience

If you’re looking to enjoy some wine and cheese, they do a cracking offer which is perfect for couples. It’s also a great gift if you’re looking for Christmas ideas. Gift vouchers can be purchased via their own website, and there are often deals available through sites such as Itison.

We recently headed in for the wine flight and cheeseboard deal. The vibe is exactly what you want for a rainy Glasgow afternoon: dark wood, comfy booths, candles and good vibes.

We found Vroni’s to have a great atmosphere, though that likely depends on when you visit. We went on a Friday afternoon, before it started to get busier. It’s conveniently street-level, so it’s accessible. The layout is clever; it feels tucked away the moment you step inside, with low lighting and cosy booths that make it the perfect escape from a grey Glasgow afternoon. There’s an upper mezzanine-style level too, which is smaller but comfortable.

I didn’t know what to expect, if I’m being honest, having never visited before. On arrival, a friendly staff member seated us, explained what the wine flight includes and gave us a menu to select our wine preferences.

Shortly after we picked, the wine flights arrived, presented really well. We got three different wines each to accompany the star of the show: the cheeseboard. It included a selection of cheeses, crackers, grapes and chutney, and it was all really nice! Check out the photos for an idea of what to expect. I’m not sure of all the different cheeses you can get, but the ones on this board were all delicious and paired perfectly with the wines. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to slow down and actually savour the flavours.

Glasgow IRL Pro-Tip: You should compare deals when booking Vroni’s. Check their website first, then see if there are any better deals on sites like Itison.

The verdict

We had such a fantastic time and this deal is really good value. The presentation is stunning and the wine bar setting really adds to the experience. Try and go on a week day so it isn’t too busy, that way you can enjoy a quieter atmosphere.

Ideal for: Couples or a afternoon/evening out with a friend.
Maybe not for: People who don’t like a variety of cheese and wines.
