The red carpet is back on Rose Street! From February 25th to March 8th, the Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) 2026 takes over the city. Whether you’re a die-hard movie lover or just looking for an excuse to grab popcorn and a pint, this year’s lineup is one of the strongest yet.

As a Glasgow local, I’ve had a look through the huge selection of films that are showing, to find the ones worth your time-and, more importantly, where to eat so you don’t miss your 7pm trailers. Note that there’s a lot more films showing than what I’ve mentioned in this post, so please share your own recommendations in the comments.

The “Can’t-Miss” Premieres

If you only book three tickets this year, make them these:

  1. The Big Opener: Everybody to Kenmure Street
    • The Vibe: An emotional, high-stakes documentary about the 2021 Pollokshields immigration raid. It’s Glasgow’s activist spirit captured on film.
  2. James McAvoy’s Debut: California Schemin’
    • The Vibe: The festival closer. The story of the Dundee rap duo who faked American accents to get a record deal. Expect a massive buzz (and maybe a McAvoy sighting at the Gala).
  3. The Local Sci-Fi: Welcome to G-Town
    • The Vibe: Aliens in Glasgow? Yes, please. It was filmed right here on our streets, making it a true Glasgow IRL essential.

Where to Eat: The “20-Minute Turnaround” Guide

Don’t settle for a soggy meal deal between screenings. These spots are all within a 5-minute dash of the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT):

Cafe Antipasti2 minsPerfect for a quick, reliable Pre-Theatre pasta.
The Butterfly and the Pig5 minsBest for a post-film drink and a giant slice of cake to discuss the plot.

GFF 2026 Survival Tips

  • The GFT Bar: It’s iconic, but it gets packed. If you want a seat before a film, get there 40 minutes early.
  • Morning Matinees: If you’re on a budget, the morning screenings are often much cheaper and just as good.
  • FrightFest (March 5-7): The horror fans take over the GFT. Even if you aren’t a horror buff, the atmosphere in the foyer is electric during these days.

Final Thoughts

Glasgow Film Festival isn’t just about the movies; it’s about the energy in the city. Grab your tickets at glasgowfilm.org and we’ll see you in the GFT foyer!
